About Us
That's where the trouble begins. Struggling to come up with a mainstream genre to describe the sound, you usually toss out terms like folksy, bluesy but not blues, bluegrassy but not really bluegrass, maybe roots rock, or alt country, or rockabilly or just Americana. Don't fret--you are not alone. There is a growing population of music fans that are using a new term today to describe this kind of music--"our kind of music" or "OKOM." That is what Cedar Creek Music is about--our kind of music. We're focused on providing music we can collectively enjoy that rides the fringes of other genres. You may not know what to call it but we can all agree that it is music that makes a difference. It all started February 18th, 2005 when two vans rolled into Frankfort, Kentucky from Nashville. They were bursting at the seams with instruments, recording gear, and mostly talent. The occupants were Will Kimbrough and Tommy Womack and their new band called Daddy featuring Dave Jacques on bass, John Deaderick on keyboards and Paul Griffith on drums. They were there to record a few live shows in hopes that an album could be made. They didn't have label-financing, executives to tell them how to do things and only one previous live performance together to work out the songs. To be frank they didn't even know what to do once they recorded the shows. Gutsy? Well maybe, but for guys who live for music it was just another night on stage. Over the course of two nights they convinced a sold-out crowd that not only would the material make a great album but that it was a record they each should own. So are a couple of nights of fun in Kentucky a good excuse for starting a record label? It was for us and we're not looking back. Our goal is to keep putting out OKOM records with Will, Tommy, Daddy or anyone else that has music that needs and should be available to fans of OKOM. Will we succeed? We're not sure but we're going to keep having fun and hope you enjoy the ride. Thanks for stopping by Cedar Creek Music and please come back soon. |
